Getting Ready For A Festive Halloween?
Trunk or Treating, Trick or Treating Safety & Costumes
Halloween is almost here! Time to have a little fun for the young and old alike. BE SAFE!!!
For an alternative to Halloween, many churches and organizations provide “Trunk or Treat” for the children. Cars fill the parking lot, with their trunks decorated. This provides a safe environment for children to trick or treat.

Trick or Treating Safety:
- Provide glow sticks for them to carry. They make bracelets and necklaces that they can wear. Keep one in their candy bag as well, so they can see what was put in there.
- Use glow in the dark tape on shoes and clothing. I think putting a large first letter of your last name on your child’s back helps you to clearly see them from a distance.
- Have your children wait to eat any candy until they get home, so you can inspect it for anything suspicious.
- Toddlers that can be out of sight in seconds, bring a harness with a retractable leash. This will keep them from running into the street without you knowing. Taking a wagon for the little ones to ride in is always a good idea!
- Also for toddlers, have their candy bag as a backpack. They will not be able to see the candy and this might prevent an unwanted tantrum.
- Cell phones or walkie talkies for the older kids. You keep one so you can contact them and visa versa.
- Teach your older kids what to look out for if they get out of your sight. Strange adults approaching them, never go inside a house, always have a buddy with them.
- Beware of candles or open flames around your child’s costume. You never know how someone will decorate their yard or porch.
- Never eat unwrapped candy.
- If a yard is dark and no lights are on, do not approach.
- And last but not least, DO NOT STEAL YOUR KID’S CANDY AFTER THEY GO TO BED!!!
