First and foremost, always give credit where credit is due!

Recently creating a square foot garden has become even more popular. Having a square foot garden allows you to garden almost anywhere. You do not have to have a backyard because a square foot garden can be grown on the balcony of a high rise apartment building. So most anyone can grow a garden!
After watching countless videos about the subject, my husband and I thought we would give it a shot. Pricing the materials to create a nice looking raised bed, we realized this was going to be expensive. Then we came across a video showing how to use free plastic crates to create a square foot garden. This is John Kohler’s video that showed us how to do it.
We have used ten plastic crates in our garden. I like the idea that I can move them around, if one is getting too much sun.
Like John said in the above video, we put our money in the soil. The crates were free and half of the plants were free.
Our Square Foot Garden:
Now we wait! We have tons of seeds that are not up yet. But this garden will be lush before we know it. The soil mixture is the one recommended by John without the “rock dust”. None of our local shops carry it so I will have ordered mine online! My site does not carry it at this time However we did use the worm castings!
I love the organized look of it and we were able to plant many more plants in this one small space, which uses less water!
This is what we have planted in our square foot garden:
5 tomato plants (one cherry tomato)
5 burpless cucumbers
5 okra
1 cilantro
parsley
oregano
basil
red jalapeno peppers
green jalapeno peppers
bell peppers
yellow squash
The marigolds are pretty but they will keep insects away too!
I hope you enjoyed this! Please like and share with your friends! I would love your comments as well!
Happy Gardening!
