Organizing Your Pantry

Organizing a pantry can actually be fun.  With the right tools, pantry storage and organizers, you can make the pantry your favorite place in your house.

Most people do not know anything about organizing a pantry.  They just throw the food in and shut the door.  I am here to help and teach you how easy organizing a pantry can be!

Hey, we are busy.  We go to the grocery store and come home with tons of bags to unload.   The only think we can think of is to getting the groceries put away as fast as possible.

But, when you have a system in place, this chore becomes something you do not mind at all.  In fact, when I restock my food it makes me feel better to see full containers instead of empty ones.  Plus, a good system also makes it easier for the kids to help because they know where things go as well.

To begin organizing a pantry, the first thing is to completely clear out the closet.  Sweep up any crumbs and wipe it out.  This is a good time to give it a fresh coat of paint.  When organizing a pantry, most people don’t think about using colorful paint.  Color makes an impact!  Once this is completed, line your shelves with a easy clean liner.

Organizing a pantry can also help eliminate unwanted pests. (It happens)

Once your pantry closet is clean and fresh,  only put back the items that you actually need or will use. Make sure you check all expiration dates.    Organizing a pantry requires that you purge the things you do not need.  This would be a good time to donate to a local  food bank.

When organizing a pantry see: ORGANIZING BASICS  Once you have sorted your items, then you can start the process of organizing a pantry. The top shelf is for items that you don’t use everyday.  Routinely used items should be on the middle shelves, such as canned goods.

Organizing Your Pantry Is A Form Of Decorating

Place like items together, such as green beans. Line them up with labels facing the front like at the store.    Do the same with any other product that you have multiples of, making sure all like items are together.

organizing a pantryWhen organizing a pantry, use air tight food storage containers for products such as, sugar, flour,  open packages, etc.  This keeps unwanted pest out of your food and to keep everything fresh.

For small, loose items such as  (oatmeal packets, hot chocolate, snacks etc)
use smaller containers that  stack together and label them accordingly .  The most important tool you could have while organizing a pantry is a label maker.   See why I love mine and get your’s here:  A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS #1   Labeling your containers is very important because it helps you to find things quickly. organizing a pantry For your  ”out of the way” storage that goes on the top shelf,  such as seasonal cookie cutters, grilling utensils, duplicate spices,  etc.  I like to use decorative boxes and baskets that are clearly labeled.

When I was organizing professionally, I found that organizing a pantry was one of the most rewarding, because the entire family benefited from results.
