Is your sock looking for it’s sole mate?

Summer time brings with it the freedom from socks.  Flip flops & sandals seem to take away a fraction of stress when it comes to missing socks.

Now that school is starting back the hunt will begin in most homes.  The first week of school, the new clothes are idolized and neatly put away.  Then it happens!  A missing sock.

Where do they go?  Are they rebelling because the affection of their owner is fading?  Maybe they get mad at each other and need some space or even separate for a while.  Who knows where they go.

Most socks seem to find their sole mate in large groups such as “Club Loads of Fun.”  However there are always a few that never make it in.  It’s sad really, one lonely sock not fitting in, looking for it’s mate.

So, today I am going to help you find your sole mate by looking in some unorthodox places.  You never know, you might actually find your sole mate in some low places like that dirty little hole in the wall.

Okay, enough with the metaphors.  Let’s think this through and come up with some ideas to once and for all put an end to your search.

1.  Have a sock dump day!  This is where everyone in your family brings every sock from their room (matched or not) and dump them in a big pile in the family room.  As a family go through them and make sure the pairs are actually pairs.  That cute little pink sock you have been looking for could accidentally end up in your teenage son’s drawer.  You will be amazed at what you find when you do this.  This is also a good time to throw out the ones with holes.

2.  Keep a jar of large safety pins near your washing machine.  Simply pin the pairs together and replace the pin after folding.

3.  Buy only one brand of athletic socks per person.  One son may have Hanes with an identifiable toe color, which is different from the Fruit of The Loom you buy your other son or husband.  This makes separating athletic socks quick and painless.

4.  As I have said in another article, KIDS DOING LAUNDRY, is a great way to reduce missing socks.  If each child is in charge of their own laundry, their things will not get mixed up with anyone else’s.

Places to look:

• Under the washer and dryer.  Pull them away from wall if you can and chances are you will find something.  Good time to dust back there too.
• Underneath the drawers themselves.  Pull your dresser drawers all the way out and you just may find some runaways.
• Under furniture in kid’s rooms.  They fit into the smallest of places.
• Toy boxes
• Under sofa cushions
• Stuffed inside other shoes
• If you have a dog, chances are they are guilty of carrying one off.  Check their bed.
• Under your beds. Especially if you have a pet that would take them under there. I read an article recently about a family dog hoarding a teenage boy’s socks.  They found a huge pile in the basement behind some boxes.
•  Gym bags
• The back seat in your car
• Suit cases.  Hey, when you unpacked, you might have missed something.
• Don’t forget our friend static!  You might find socks inside a fitted sheet stored in the linen closet.

So you see, your sole mate could be closer than you think.  Put on a Barry White CD and start looking. They are just waiting to be found.

I like the idea of the picture at the top.  If it hangs there for longer than a month, toss it.
